Here's What You Need to Know
1. Program Overview
International Roadcheck is the largest targeted enforcement program in world (not just North America)! On average, 17 vehicle inspections are conducted every minute. The goal of the program is to encourage the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs).
2. Important Dates and Time
The International Roadcheck inspection blitz runs over a straight 72-hour period. This year, the program will be taking place from June 6 - 8, 2017.
The United States, Canada, and Mexico participate in International Roadcheck.
International Roadcheck is a CVSA program with participation by the U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, Transport Canada, and the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (Mexico).
4. Inspection Process
During the program, CVSA-certified commercial motor vehicle (CMV) inspectors will conduct inspections of CMVs and drivers. During International Roadcheck, inspectors typically conduct a Level I - North American Standard Inspection. This is the most in depth roadside inspection with over 37-steps including strict driver and vehicle reviews.
5. Special Emphasis Area
Every year, the CVSA places a special emphasis on a specific catergory of violation. This year, the program will focus on cargo securement. This area is part of a standard inspection but now, inspectors will be taking a more detailed look. Inspectors are going to be looking to issue the following violations related to cargo securement:
- Failure to prevent shifting/loss og load
- Failure to secure truck equipment (targs, dunnage, doors, tailgates, spare tires, etc.)
- Damaged tie-downs (unacceptable wear on chain or cuts/tears on web straps)
- Insufficient tie-downs
- Loose tie-downs
