Is It Time to Choose a New ELD Solution Provider?

There are over 200 solution providers listed on the FMCSA’s self-certification list. In an effort to find an affordable solution before the December 18, 2017 deadline, many drivers and fleets rushed into purchasing an electronic logging device (ELD). Many of these solutions turned out to be unreliable and non-compliant, or there has been no support from the provider to help the company use their overly-complicated devices.

Is it Time to Choose a New ELD Provider? Not all ELDs are created equally! User experience, post-sale support, and reliable technology from an experienced provider have a huge impact on the success of your ELD compliance. If you aren’t getting what you need out of your ELD provider, it might be time to make a change…

5 Signs It’s Time to Switch ELD Providers

1. You Can’t Reach Support

You can't reach support - you need a new ELD providerDoes it feel like pulling teeth to get a support representative on the phone? You’re not alone. Many drivers and fleets are complaining that they can’t get in touch with technical support, and when they do reach someone, they are not very knowledgeable or helpful. If this sounds familiar, it could be a red flag.

Well-trained, accessible training and support teams are an extension of your organization. If you or your drivers are stuck, you should be able to rely on your solution provider to help you so that you or your drivers can focus on the road ahead and delivering loads on-time. If this isn’t the case, it might be time to explore your ELD options.

BigRoad has expanded our in-house North American Support Team to provide our users with the best possible experience. Our team is available to answer your questions by phone at  1-888-305-8777 x1, by email at [email protected], or via live-chat on the BigRoad website.

2. Back Office Tasks are Overly Complicated
Back office tasks are too complicated - you need a new ELD providerUsing an ELD should make managing driver logs easier, not more difficult. If you’re spending an unreasonable amount of time managing logs since implementing ELDs, there might be a problem!

In just a few taps, you should be able to locate a driver’s logs from the previous day, find out how much drive time they have available, and pull a list of HOS and DVIR violations that occurred during a specific timeframe. If you can’t complete these basic tasks quickly, you need a better solution that will make you and your staff’s jobs easier and more efficient.

3. Your Drivers Don’t Like The Solution
Your driver's don't like the ELD - it's time to get a new ELDIt’s true – many drivers are resistant to switching from paper logs to ELDs, but that doesn’t mean their complaints should go unheard. In fact, we often hear from users that even the most resistant drivers have enjoyed how easy BigRoad makes logging, and that they wouldn’t go back to paper logs if given the choice.

If drivers don’t like the technology, they’re not going to want to use it, creating bigger problem for you and your fleet. Make sure to listen to their concerns and determine if your current solution is the right solution.

4. Pricing Isn’t Transparent
Pricing isn't transparent - you need a new ELDHave you been hit with hidden fees? A lot of drivers and fleets are noting that their provider wasn’t upfront with the company’s pricing structure. Many ELD providers are presenting ultra-”affordable” solutions that are simply too good to be true. After the solution is committed to, the provider hits you with additional fees for device activation, data packages, installation, training, and implementation.

Your ELD solution provider should act as your compliance partner, and you need to be able to trust them. If you’ve been misguided by less-than-transparent pricing, it might be time to look for another provider.

5. Your Provider Popped-Up After the ELD Mandate
Your provider popped up after the mandate? Time to get a new one!Having a solution provider that is experienced in hours-of-service (HOS) rules and regulations and driver-centric solutions is critical if you want to be able to count on them to keep you running in compliance.

A lot of providers jumped on the ELD bandwagon at the last minute to pad their pockets. If you don’t feel like your solution provider is experienced in building solutions with drivers in mind, it might be time to look at your options!
